Last Wednesday marked the 20th anniversary of the 2004 EU expansion, which saw Central European countries the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia all join the European Union. They were then later joined by Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.
