Stocks on Wall Street pushed higher on Tuesday as US consumer confidence rose in May following three straight months of declines. The Conference Board, a business research group, said the index rose to 102 from 97.5 in April. Analysts were expecting the index to decline again.
It came as the FTSE 100 (^FTSE) and European stocks were lower on Tuesday despite UK shop price rises returning to normal levels, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and research firm NielsenIQ.
